Bleu d’Elizabeth – An organic, raw cows milk cheese that usually convinces non-blue cheese types to cross over to the blue side! This delicious blue earned the well deserved 2013 Canadian Grand Prix award for best Blue Cheese!
Pair with Kichesippi Heller High Water, done in the style of a pale Bavarian lager with great malt flavour and the slight presence of hops. This easy going blue also pairs well with India Ale House’s Breakfast Porter, a velvety and refreshing beer with notes of chocolate and coffee.
Grey Owl – A delicious, soft goats milk cheese with a vegetable ash rind that helps pack in all the flavour! A 2012 American Cheese Society Award Winner.
Pair with Blanche de Champly, a Quebec beer done in the style of a Belgian White Ale. This beer has a natural creaminess to it with underlying flavours of orange and lemon, the perfect compliment for goat’s cheese!
Avonlea Clothbound Cheddar – Produced from unpasteurized cow’s milk on Prince Edward Island and made to a traditional cheddar recipe from the Orkney Islands, off the north coast of Scotland, this celebrated Canadian Cheddar was awarded 1st prize at the Canadian Cheese Grand Prix in 2011.
Pairs well with Ashton’s Harvest Brown Ale, a beer with a smooth body and deep roasted flavour for the perfect bite to compliment the earthy tones of this Cheddar.
Gunn’s Hill Oxford Harvest – a hand crafted, washed rind cow’s milk cheese made in Oxford County, Ontario that is modeled after a little known Swiss cheese called Mutchli.
We recommend pairing this creamy and mild-mannered favourite with a light and hoppy, summery beer. The Gunn’s Hill Creamery has recently teamed up with the people at Beau’s Beer for a new project and we think the Beau’s Beaver River IPA, with its citrus tones and hoppy aroma, is a great match for this special Ontario cheese.
